Read this Variety feature on a controversy that offended some global fans of BLACKPINK. What was the problem and how did they respond?
In the "How you like that" music video there was a glimpes of a statue of the Hindu Deity Ganesh in the background, which was placed on the floor. This caused quite and uproar among fans and a multitude of other people because this was not the first time the k-pop industry has disrespected and disregarded other peoples cultures, especially Desi culture. What's even more surprising is since a large portion of Blackpink's fan base is form India you would think that they would be more careful when it came to other people cultures; and this type of thing is quite unsurprising for YG Entertainment since in one of their groups , BigBang, a member had dreadlocks in the earlier years. Even though they are aware of this they still let this happen within the groups that they manage and it happens within the industry itself time and time again, continuously using Back and Desi cultures as stepping stools. At this point I'm convinced that they do this for publicity now ,since this has happened frequently over the years and still happens today. People wanted them to release an apology or take down the video, so YG Entertainment took down the music video and put it back up without the Deity in the background. They may have taken it down but they still didn't acknowledge their mistake and they never will , exactly the same as how the k-pop industry will never admit their wrongs.
