Industry Context- BBC
1) What is the BBC mission statement?
To inform, educate and entertain
2) How is the BBC funded?
Its funded by the TV license
3) What must the BBC do to meet it's public service broadcasting responsibilities?
They provide balanced info, support learning for all ages, produce creative output, have diverse content and to reflect the UK and it's culture and values around the world.
4) What is regulation and how is the BBC regulated?
Regulation is to ensure inappropriate content isn't broadcasted to audiences and the rules are followed. The BBC is regulated by OfCOM ( The Office of Communication)
5) How do Doctor Who and His Dark Materials help the BBC to meet the BBC's remit to inform, educate and entertain?
Doctor Who does all three of these , educating through the science , informing through the different time periods seen in the show and entertaining through the characters and plot lines. HDM does mostly entertaining as it's a fantasy/ action and adventure show, however it does inform us of how the director feels towards Catholicism and the government through the way he presents them throughout the show.
